In Slovak Republic there are many cultural monuments having great historical, urban and architectural value. The most attractive are the castles and palaces. There are about 200 of them. Most of them are in ruins doomed to gradual destruction usually located above almost-vertical rock faces. The existence of these monuments depended mostly on stability of the rocks endangered with rock falls and other slope failures. In this paper, we present the most frequent engineering geological causes of the failures and results of their investigation on some rock faces.
