The article deals with the development of the residential area of ​​cities in the Czech Republic, its changes, but also about the dangers and threats associated with it. Above all, it deals with the transfer of the distribution network from residential areas to the outskirts of cities in connection with the development of motorization and the emergence of supermarkets and hypermarkets as a new type of sales units.
